Our Story
The Hold was founded by Rae Pooley. For as long as she can remember, her life has been a tapestry of creativity and nature. From an early age, Rae developed a love for finding one-of-a-kind pieces in vintage stores and artisanal markets around the world — a pursuit that infused each find with sentimentality from the start. That same sense of nostalgia is at the heart of The Hold.
After over a decade of experience working in buying and design for some of Australia’s most iconic brands, Rae made the leap to create something of her own and in 2021, The Hold was born. She set out to create handbags that hold more than just our belongings — pieces that carry the chapters of our lives and step into new ones. To be held for the most monumental occasions and daily routines alike.
The Hold strives to combat excess waste in the industry through small run production. We believe that when something is made by hand, it imbues a sentimentality that is not only an ode to the artisan but to keeping traditional craft alive. We honour the skills and craftsmanship of our makers and every set of hands our product passes through on its journey to us.
It is with hope, our pieces remain with you for many years and even generations. Loved and passed on, each time inscribing a new story to be told every time they’re worn and carried with you.
For you and the things you hold close.

Benevolence
We are proud to make a contribution of $10 AUD from every bag sold to support two impactful charities: Save the Children and the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. For us, a product’s beauty lies not only in the joy it brings to its owner but also in its capacity to make a difference beyond itself.
Save the Children is committed to transforming the lives of children worldwide by providing essential resources in healthcare, education, and protection, fostering a brighter future for young lives.
Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation focuses on advancing breakthrough research to improve early detection and develop more effective treatments for ovarian cancer, helping to save and enhance lives.
We believe in creating pieces that hold meaning and purpose, impacting lives far beyond our own.

Ethical Practices
We acknowledge it is our responsibility to ensure our makers are working in safe and fair conditions.

Additionally, our makers are provided with social insurance and healthcare.
